Report on the 2008 Feast & Fayre July 2008 The rain failed to dampen the spirits of those brave souls who helped to make this years Feast and Fayre the premier social event of the Darrington calendar. The Feast and Fayre Queen Freya Kaye along with King Luke Brammer and their two attendants opened the event before starting off the fun run and handing out the medals. This year the fun run attracted a record number of 163 runners or walkers who completed the five mile circuit. As with previous years the profits from the fun run are donated to charity. This year the chosen charity was the Martin House Hospice and without taking into account any individual sponsorship that may have been raised we were able to donate £950. The rain meant that some of the arena entertainment had to be cancelled for safety reasons, but we were pleased that the Lynbar Majorettes braved the elements to entertain the crowds. The re-enactment group also provided a demonstration of ancient weaponry, tactics and had the youngsters practicing their marching skills. Musical accompaniment throughout the afternoon was provided by Carleton High school band and "The Cellars" As expected on such a wet day the money raise was down on the previous years total, but thanks to all the supporters who braved the rain we still managed to raise £1700. The money raised will help towards the cost of the annual maintenance of the field and its facilities, and will go towards our longer term goal of providing a new playground at a cost of over £65,000. I would like to thanks Denise and Richard and our small band of the hard working organisers for all their hard work and all those who helped on the day thus making the 25th Feast and Fayre one to remember. Next year the Feast and Fayre will be held on Saturday 20th June 2009 when the sun will shine throughout the day. If you are new to Darrington, or would like to have a say on how next years event will
look please come along to our first planning meeting at 7.30 in the Spreadeagle on 19th

Feast and Fayre held on the 25th June 2005 proves to be a great success. Feast & Fayre Pictures on the link above. 2005 Feast & Fayre This years Feast and Fayre raised a staggering £4700.00 towards the upkeep of our lovely village field. Although the day was hardly sunny the crowds still turned out to support the event. A massive number of 760 balloons were released, we are still waiting to see where these are returned from because in previous years these reached as far away as Germany and Austria. The £800.00 profits from the fun run has now been presented to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This figure does not include any personal sponsorship that may have been raised by the runners, which we know will be at least a further £300.00. The tractor pull was popular again, this year a new event a wheely bin race saw some intense competition, the cow milking, the greasy pole, crazy bike, penalty shoot, basket ball, bar-b-cue and bar all had plenty of customers. The Village Field Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank all the helpers, sponsors and contributors of prizes for their magnificent support without which this event would not run.
The fun run was completed by 177 competitors and the winner Martin Sanders set a record time of 26 minutes 35 seconds. Martin Sanders (31) Please note that next years Feast and Fayre will take place on 24th June 2006 and planning will start in earnest in January. If you would like to help, sponsor an event, or have any good ideas for next years Feast and Fayre please contact Stella Hoyle on 01977 704619.
2004
Feast & Fayre Where does the money raised go? The profits form the FEAST & FAYRE go towards the maintenance of the Village Field. This is a private facility held in trust for all to use and enjoy and as such does not receive any support from the local authority, other than the Parish Council. Recently £3000.00 was spent on additional surfacing and a basket ball shoot will soon be erected. Profits from the Fun Run go towards a charity of our choice which this year is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Remember the field is for everyone in the Village to enjoy so lets try and look after it. Take your litter home or use the bins provide, seats are for sitting on not standing on, the swings and children's play area is for "children". Dog owners do not let your dog foul the field. |
