Tony Harris, General Manager of The Mid-Yorkshire Golf Club, generously hosted the very first presentation of the Darrington Parish Council Garden Competition Rose Bowl at the Awards’ ceremony held at the golf club last week.

2007 competition winner, Tony Moorhouse of Sotheron Croft, was amazed but delighted to receive the bowl – donated by The Mid Yorkshire Golf Club -  along with an equally unexpected but very welcome voucher for meals at the club. His front lawn, designed in the shape of a four leaf clover, certainly brought him good luck this year!

Runners-up Mrs Ellerington, Ash Grove, and Mr and Mrs Smith, Valley Road received vouchers also very generously donated   by Baghill Nurseries and The Spread Eagle Pub, Darrington.

Judging took place last week during one of the few sunny gaps in the weather. Despite a more modest number of entries than last year, the standard was very high indeed and all the gardens were a blaze of colour, scent and wonderful design.

Competition organiser and Parish Councillor, Andy Tagger, thanking all entrants said, “The Parish Council is determined to nurture community involvement wherever we can. We’ve got a lovely village and loads of very enthusiastic, talented gardeners. Our annual free-entry, fun competition is a good excuse for people in our parish to meet and share good ideas – and even better cuttings!”

Andy thanked Mid Yorkshire Golf Club, Baghill Nurseries and The Spread Eagle for their continued and much appreciated support. “We really value the generous contributions and encouragement of our competition sponsors.”
