Darrington Parish Council

Proposed Street Light Scheme

All residents in Darrington Parish Council area are invited to think about the street light replacements that are about to be erected through Darrington Parish.
We’ve two clear choices, do nothing – and we’ll get street lights like those recently erected in Carleton (and across from the Spread Eagle) – and no change for 25years!

OR

Opt for alternative, arguably more appropriate street lights with lower street lights and an alternative, attractive design. They will still meet the highways regulations – but (from Spread Eagle pub to the A1 + Church and Philips Lane) will cost £4.20 per Parish household per year (that’s only 8p a week)
If you want the Abbey street lights, you should return your opinion slip asap

More info. in the reading room Mon+tues am or Thurs pm
or
www.darrington.org.uk
or from any Darrington Parish Councillor

Deadline 12th JUNE 2007
Thanks

The highways regulations won’t allow anything lower than 8 metre high street lights from Marlpit Lane to the Spread Eagle pub because the road is quite wide.
From the Spread Eagle pub to the A1, the road is a little narrower so we can request lower 6metre street lights with an alternative Abbey top (lantern). Darrington Parish Council selected the Abbey lantern. It looks traditional but rest assured that it’s an ultra modern lantern which meets all the necessary highways regulations.
From the A1 to Valley Road major street light replacements are not being made.

Darrington Parish Council also believes that Church Lane and Philips lane would benefit from the Abbey lanterns.
Every Darrington Parish Precept household is being leafleted and invited to let us know what you think.

Do something – or do nothing.

We won’t get another chance for over 25 years!!
It would be great if WMDC would pay for the alternative lights. They won’t because we’re not a conservation area like Badsworth or Wooley so each precept household will have to pay no more than £4:20 each year (that’s 8pence per week) not per person but per household.

Let us know what you think
