WIND FARM PUBLIC MEETING

21st February 2007pict0003.jpg (754236 bytes)

200 plus concerned residents attended the Public Meeting that the Parish Council organised for the evening of th 21st February 2007.

Residents were asked to speak for or against the Bank’s Group Wind Farm Proposal on land either side of Westfield Lane, no one spoke in favour.

All spoke of their concern that the site was not suitable for many reasons: -

too close to housing
noise
too close to the A1
hazard distracting drivers
negative visual impact on a unique landscape
real concerns about negative impact on property values
damage to the local economy cause by the above point
damage to birds and wildlife
lack of consultation

District Councillor Geoff Walsh spoke in opposition to the Wind Farm and the Planning application that has been lodge with WMDC for a Wind Measuring Mast 60 metres high on the Westfield Lane site. The meeting was reminded that it is important to object to this now (Planning application No. 07/00212/FUL).
Use Planning link on this page.

At the end of the meeting resident were asked to leave their names in order that an Action Group can be formed to oppose the Banks Group proposals.

It is hoped to hold the first meeting of the Action Group next week

The Parish Council’s of Darrington and East Hardwick attended a presentation by Banks Group on the 17th January 2007, two representatives of the Banks Group explain their proposal to build a Wind Farm of eight turbines at the above site.

Following this meeting Darrington Parish Councillors set up a working group, which met on the 23rd January 2007, to further discuss the implications for the Village of Darrington and its residents.

At this meeting which all councillors attended, it was decided not to support or oppose the development at this stage, but to wait until the exhibition by Banks Group on the 6th & 7th February 2007 and then hold a public meeting at a later date to be arranged.
